HCS student scores gold rating at ISSMA contest, recognized for academic excellence

Huntington Catholic School seventh grader Laura Hartmus poses for a picture with Dr. Vickie Barton of the Indiana Academy at Ball State University recently.

Huntington Catholic School student Laura Hartmus performed at the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) district solo and ensemble contest at Eastbrook High School last weekend, earning a gold rating for her clarinet solo.

Laura was the lone HCS participant in this year's event.

Laura has had a busy seventh-grade year. Last October, she was recognized by The Indiana Academy at Ball State University and the Center for Talent Development at Northwestern University for demonstrating academic excellence and being a leading scholar in Indiana.

Selection for the honors was based on her impressive performance on the Explore test administered by the ACT. Laura achieved a perfect score on the reading potion. She was honored with an awards ceremony at Ball State and has qualified to take the ACT this school year through Northwestern's Center for Talent Development.

Great job Laura! We are very proud of you!
